Hello Dr. Muir and "Team"!



This is quite lengthy, however, I am so happy with my smile that I was unable to express my gratitude briefly! You may use any of this testimony as you see fit.



For over 10 years, I agonized over the condition of my teeth. Aesthetically, the teeth appeared fine from the "smile" side, however the enamel was significantly eroded on the inside due to a bulimic past. I had visited a Dentist in the Lower Mainland who actually stated "I don't know how we're going to handle this substantial erosion. . . "



I was mortified. I felt that Mr. North Delta Dentist was going to suggest extraction of the eroded teeth and replace them with some false ones.



2 years after having moved from North Delta to the Okanagan, I finally found the courage to see a Dentist. My search commenced with the Yellow Pages shaking in my hands. I perused a litany of advertisements for Dentistry until Kelowna Dental Centre's advertisement held my attention. They provide a comprehensive list of services; the key word was "restoration". Intuitively, I had a good feeling. Even when I called for the first time, I received a friendly and professional greeting and was made to feel that everything was going to be great.



My first visit to Kelowna Dental Centre alleviated all of my past 10+ years of apprehension and anxiety over locating an excellent Dentist. Whereas my previous Dentist "didn't know how to handle it . . . " Dr. Muir exclaimed "Piece of cake! I do this all the time!"



Dr. Muir and every person working with her are amazing. All of the "Team" make you feel as though you are visiting a "restorative spa" as opposed to the "dreaded dentist appointment".



Now for the most important segment:



My smile has been restored to perfection! For over 2 years, I have been unable to chew on the right hand side of my mouth; that condition is just a bad memory now! All of my teeth (crowns and onlays included) line up perfectly; my teeth have been restored beyond the natural beauty they had when they were 20 years old!

To Whom it may Concern,

I embarked upon an orthodontic plan with Kelowna Dentistry by Design 2 1/2 years ago.

The magnitude of the work that was necessary was somewhat intimidating at the onset. Throughout my treatment I was consistently received in a respectful, one on one basis which effectively put me at ease. I was clearly kept informed of my progress in a concise manner and always knew what to next expect. My many calls to the office with concerns or questions were treated in a respectful manner and attended to quickly.

The result thus far, is stunning. I enjoy a full new alignment of my jaw that allows my teeth a balanced alignment as well, thus reducing the significant wear and tear that was previously evident.

I look forward to completing my treatment plan with restorative work to repair the damage that was done by the misalignment that I was born with.

Dear Chris,


I want to thank you again for arranging an in-home sleep test and interpreting the results to me. It was an excellent test and very useful in helping me understand my sleep apnea problem and finding the appropriate remedy.


A few weeks after we met, I was able to take advantage of a cancellation, and get an appointment at the Kelowna Sleep Clinic for an observed night of sleep. The results between the two tests were very similar. The difference in my case was that with the simultaneous video observation, the technician was able to correlate my episodes of sleep apnea with the position in which I was sleeping, i.e. on my back.


Therefore, the preferred method of treatment for me at this time is positional therapy, not on my jaw, but my whole body. It is important to keep me off my back if I want to keep the oxygen moving to vital places. Hopefully this will prevent my having to use the CPAP machine or an oral device.


Now I am trying two products from the Rematee company, a night shirt and a fanny pack that utilize air filled bolsters to prevent rolling over from one’s side to back. This is much more comfortable than the tennis ball shirt I had once tried. I’m not sure yet which of the Rematee products will work best for me. I had also inquired about a number of breathing aids offered through a snoring web site in the UK. Now I understand that my sleep apnea problem is not related to the fact that I sometimes have to breathe through my mouth, and that nasal congestion, possibly due to allergy, is a separate snoring issue to research. My name is Jonathan Ritchey… I am the father of two wonderful children, and husband to my high school sweetheart. I do what I love for a living, and I can honestly say my life has been truly blessed with one exception. That exception being, that I have had to endure years of agonizing jaw pain. For more than 10 years I was unable to let the tension in my jaw go, and the endless clinching of my teeth stressed the muscles, tendons, and ligaments to the breaking point. My hearing became impaired as well as my ears seemed to be endlessly plugged. As I opened and closed my mouth, I would hear crackling and popping noises that continued to worsen over time.
I had been to see many doctors and specialists but could not find any relief. One specialist, upon finishing his analysis stated “you’ve got the worst case of TMJ I’ve ever seen”, and followed that up with, “but there’s really nothing you can do about it but maybe wear and mouth guard at night, and don’t chew gum”. As a result of being unable to find any relief, I became very frustrated with the traditional medical system, and I became so discouraged and depressed at the thought of living the rest of my life with this endless pain.
At a friend’s house party about 5 years ago, I met a dentist who told me about a new area of dentistry that might actually fix my jaw problems… while I was skeptical, I was not about to pass on an opportunity to ease my suffering, and searched to find what turned out to be the only specialist in this field of dentistry in the Okanagan… Dr. Sharnell Muir.
Dr. Muir and her team made me feel very comfortable through the process, and today I am completely free of jaw pain and the headaches this caused. From my perspective, this is nothing short of a miracle!
While my physical appearance had little to do with my decision to undertake the procedure, I was thrilled with my new smile, as my teeth look so much better than before.
